Mortgage modification FAQ
Straight answers to common questions about mortgage modification.
Can you guarantee my loan will be modified?+
No. No one can honestly guarantee a modification. Your loan servicer decides whether to offer one, based on its own guidelines and your circumstances.
Are you a lender or a law firm?+
No. MortgageModNow is not a lender, loan servicer, law firm or government agency. We provide general information and resources, not legal or financial advice.
Do I have to pay someone to apply?+
No. You can contact your servicer and apply directly at no cost. HUD-approved housing counselors also offer free or low-cost help.
Should I stop paying my mortgage to qualify?+
Don't stop paying because someone tells you to. Missing payments can have serious consequences. Talk to your servicer or a housing counselor about your options.
What is a hardship letter?+
A short, honest letter explaining what caused your financial difficulty, when it started, and why you believe a change to your loan would help you keep up with payments.
What if I'm facing foreclosure?+
Contact your servicer immediately and consider speaking with a HUD-approved housing counselor or a licensed attorney in your state as soon as possible — deadlines can matter.
